Amplitude was honored to partner with the Ministry of Defence (MoD) to create a social media activation commemorating the 80th anniversary of D-Day. The goal was to produce a short-form video with viral potential, raising awareness and showcasing the MoD's efforts. The project focused on human stories, emotions, and real-life experiences, aligning with the MoD's vision for the anniversary.
Working closely with the MoD Communications Directorate, we developed a strategy that centered on the story of “Marie and Dave.” Their unique friendship served as the heart of the video, capturing the essence of the D-Day anniversary through personal narratives.
Marie, a 97-year-old former WREN, and Dave, a London cabbie and veteran, shared a special bond. Their journey through London in Dave's black cab became the setting for an emotional and unscripted exploration of their memories. The route included surprise visits to locations of military significance, where special guests contributed to the conversations, sparking new reflections.
The narrative culminated at the Royal Naval College in Greenwich with a surprise performance by the Countess of Wessex String Orchestra, playing Artie Shaw's music—a favorite of Marie's. This emotional moment was complemented by an afternoon tea, allowing Marie to relive cherished memories.
Amplitude handled all aspects of the project, from storyboarding and supply chain management to content production and post-production editing. We ensured every detail, from the technical infrastructure within the black cab to the venue management, was meticulously executed.
The short film was a resounding success, with social media impressions and engagement far exceeding the targets set by the MoD Communications team. The content resonated deeply with audiences, achieving the desired viral impact while honoring the historical significance of D-Day.
"It was so easy to work with you and you really understood what we were trying to achieve from the off… thanks for all your work on this project and the lovely videos you and the team produced of Marie. The final edit was really lovely."
